Who We Are

The CDI is the UK-wide professional body for the career development sector. Our members, (Circa 4,500) are careers leaders, careers advisers and allied career development and employability specialists working in the public, private, voluntary and community sectors.

We recognise that careers leaders are extremely busy people, often working in an isolated way with limited opportunities to get out of school/college and attend physical meetings and visits. This new online CoP will provide you with access to relevant information and support in an easy to use and engaging way.

Within 12 months we aim to make this forum:

  • A primary way of linking and connecting careers leaders locally, regionally and nationally

  • A major go to resource for careers leaders

  • The online place where your questions will be answered by experts

In order to achieve best join-up in a rich and developing sector, we are working closely with the Careers & Enterprise Company to develop this forum space. You will know that the Careers & Enterprise Company is coordinating links on the ground through the career hubs and supporting the development of research and resources. As the professional body for the sector, we lead on professional development, qualifications and training. Through this new forum we are pleased to be working together, providing a blended approach.

Open access forums frequently suffer from information overload and inappropriate advertising, so the new CoP for careers leaders is a closed forum. Membership of the CoP is part of our package of membership benefits - so you will need to be a member of the CDI to take part. In this way we offer a moderated and mediated forum which will avoid commercial bias and ensure that content complies with the CDI Code of Ethics.

Kath Wright
Community Leader

Hi, I am pleased to be working as the moderator and mediator of the new CoP. For colleagues who do not know me, I am a consultant, trainer and writer specialising in careers and work-related education. I have decades of experience of working in education, covering posts in schools, a Careers/Connexions Service and in School Improvement with Essex Local Authority. Most recently I have been involved in the training of careers leaders, working as the lead trainer for the CDI’s Certificate in Careers Leadership and running courses as part of the national careers leader training programme sponsored by the Careers & Enterprise Company.
